Start with the contents of Mods; if you have a lot of mods and custom content, the 50/50 method can make the process much more efficient:

I saved, restarted and quit. Went back and removed the newly created Mods folder and renamed my mods folder back, loaded up my previous save and
UnfortunatelyI saved too many times AFTER it got corrupted, so I couldn't load an older version of it that was still working. That save was gone. I had a backup file on my PC that wasn't corrupted yet, it was a week old so I was a week behind in gameplay, but it wasn't corrupted and I could play with it. It's been fine ever since.

Please try the game without your mods/custom content. To do so, go to Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4 and move the "Mods" folder to your desktop. Then open the game again and check if it works.
